Recognition

So usually I don't participate in the blog chain letter things and quizzes and whatnot, but Scott's School of Rock entry really struck a chord with me. I would like to echo his fuzzy sentiments. Again, in no particular order (except maybe Scott).

Scott

A rare breed this gentleman is. He's extremely sharp, quick-witted, direct, honest, and genuinely benevolent. He's also one of the smartest and productive people I've met here at UCSD. Too often (and I've lamented about this before) people with advanced intellects don't apply it to anything useful. Sure they can get a 4.0 GPA in high school and college, but when it comes down to actually producing things for the real world, they're about as useful as a water cooler. Scott is trying (if only subconsciously) to break out of the bounds of college already; being productive in the real world and solving difficult problems with robust and well-designed solutions. I don't worry for a second about his future prospects because I know whatever he works on and whomever he's with will enjoy the fruits of his truly unique talent and undying effort toward achieving and sustaining a great life.

Joe

Joe is a fun guy. He's also a talented coder who sees past the normal class requirements in the world of computer science. He knows what Good Design™ is and he's not afraid to properly code generic elegant components. That's a refreshing change for anyone who's dealt with the all-business-no-care CS people who just want to "get it done". If Joe ever leaves college, he'll have fun in the real world. If he doesn't come work for me, I'm sure he'll find someone who appreciates his uniquely astute understanding of proper (dynamic) coding.

Nik

Nik is a funny guy. He's definitely been through a lot recently and I admire his resolve to press on. Sometimes he gives a bit of the "little brother" vibe, but he has good intentions and he's come a long way just in the short few months I've known him. I'm glad I could help him out with a job and he has shown that he is more than competent for the extreme variety of tasks asked of him.

Paul

Paul's a good guy. I haven't had an overwhelming amount of contact with him, but it's obvious that he has a keen intellect for coding and lunixing.

Ava

Ava is quiet. I don't really know much about her at all other than what I've gathered through limited observation. She's definitely considerate, as she lets me use the Cinema Display at work when I get there, and she's also very good at DDR.

Hanna

Hanna is exuberant! She seems to be a key life force behind the livelihood of the group. She was the first to prod me into becoming more acquainted and friendly. The parties without her have been admittedly less exciting.

Stephi

Stephi's fun and caring. Sometimes the bottle gets the better of her, but she's not malevolent in the least and is always there to greet with a smile.

Well I'd probably write more, but I'm going to be late for tonight's party! Heh. Well some quick ones to finish up:

Mooneer's cool and obviously talented, but I think might not realize that other recognize and respect his talent.
Vivien is awesome for bringing most of our entertainment and coming to the parties.
DJ Capelis is a dirty hacker. But he's also a lot of fun.
Danny's a strange fellow, but fits in pretty well with the group and has a great sense of bizarre humor.

OK going now. The people I missed are just extremely awesome and I would have had to write several pages for each of them. I plead lack of time. :D

Book Thingy

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 23.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

To illustrate the use of remainders in solving a number thoeretic problem, we will show that any positive integer whose remainder is 7 when divided by 8 cannot be written as the sum of three squares.

Yes; I am a math geek.

Feels so good

sometimes things are just awesome. my day was not so great, but then it all turned around. i'm feeling great now and will be happily doing homework tomorrow. i want to drive my car. i want that house by the beach. i want that girl and that life. it's all so close yet so far. here's to life.

crazy? yes. wonderful? definitely.

it makes little sense to the rational mind, but i know it feels right. everything in my inner happiness-driven conscience knows that this is the right move. i am tense because i want this job more than ever. the prospective emotions are unmatchable.

it would be amazing if all of this worked out in the best way. i can't wait to see...

rain drops

rain drops falling down with eyes closed, bodies entangled. the sweet taste of her skin and the gray sky, pulling them together. rhythm, bass, soul. high above the world, swimming in a cloud. breathing the cold air brings life into them and between them there is infinite passion. together they conquer the world, alone on a rooftop.

an excursion into the unknown

so i figured i could use another journal type thing where i can get into more detail about goings-on and such. maybe it'll work out or maybe i'll forget about it. oh well, here goes...
